Description

Born in the Netherlands in 1914, but then lived in Italy from 1958 until his passing in 2000, Karel Thole was one of the most prolific and acclaimed cover-artists and illustrators of his era, especially in the science fiction field.

As wrote on the back of the painting, it was made as the cover for an edition of James White science fiction novel "Federation World", but I think it wasn't actually used. In fact, the novel was published by Ballantine Books in 1988 with a somehow similar image on the cover (but not painted by Thole).
Anyway this eye-catching image has been displayed during an exhibit held in Trieste, Italy, in 2001.
