Description

At this year's spring edition of Dutch Comic Con in Utrecht, the organisation & Marvel assembled their entire 2023 class of Stormbreakers - the new iteration of the Young Guns. As Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said at the show: these are the names you & the next generation of readers will know.

Part of that talented class, is Italian artist Elena Casagrande, whose work you saw on "Black Widow", "Batgirl" & "Catwoman". I've seen her commissions before & have been loving her take on the Spidey characters. There's one particular Spider-Gwen - purely pencil - that I especially liked.

I brought a picture of that one as a reference & went to her table on Saturday morning. I think she really appreciated the specific adoration I had for the piece and her work, and she liked the idea to use that style quite a bit. Typically, she does typical (but also beautiful!) pencil & ink pieces at shows.

Elena delivered this playful Mary Jane, as if she's posing for one of Pete's pictures. The piercing green eyes. And that amazingly rendered hair, with some softer lines throughout the piece. Just great stuff!

Same as that Spider-Gwen, most of this piece was done in pencils, but Elena did add some white-out spatters, green accents & some fixing spray. Size is A4 - the European equivalent of 9x12.

Afterwards, she made sure that I'd send her a high-quality scan of the piece - so I think she was quite okay with this one, as well.
