Decimation era X-Men comics are kind of a mixed bag but Matt Fraction's run was solid, especially after he brought the X-Men to Utopia. The issues featuring the Dodsons on art duties were always a delight--totally a great pick to render Scott and Emma running around in each other's weird psychic mind palaces.

Terry Dodson had a sketch list going for ECCC 2023 and I asked for Cyclops with his hood down and his sunglasses on. That's how he tended to draw Scott in the quieter moments of Fraction's run, whenever the bone-deep exhaustion started to show from bearing the responsibility of keeping the last shreds of a dying race alive and, well, also making sure his ad-hoc island fortress didn't sink into the goddamn ocean. I have pretty fond memories of the Utopia comics and the Dodsons were a huge highlight of it.

This was an era of the X books I was late for but man, the Dodsons truly are remarkable. This piece is a wonderful portrayal of one of the most underrated leaders in all of Marvel and maybe even in all of comics!
