Love this take on the Quitely design!

I have a page from this issue too and was totally excited about it for the same reason despite it also being a series of costumeless talking head panels. This issue and #7 have a wow factor to them that I'm still not over yet. They're fantastic examples of modern era comics. I never thought that Leinil Yu drawing a fancy dinner party would ever feel so intense.

Great action and this exudes Kurt's carefree charm really well. The smoke effect is very cool.

It might not be a Tom Paris commemorative souvenir plate but it's still a pretty good one. I love how you can immediately tell this was a 90s collector's plate design. Very cool!

Both an awesome Sandman page and a killer piece of Bachalo's early work. Super cool inks too, that top right panel especially.

This one has a really great impact to size ratio! From the image alone I wouldn't have guessed that it was on a 6x9 card. Awesome little SDCC pickup, it turned out wonderful.

It was fun sitting in on the SIKTC panel even if I was secretly waiting for the one after it. It's been on my to-read list for a while and after the panel I looked into hardcover editions haha. Cool character design and cover! That's great that you found a cool SIKTC piece on the SDCC show floor after the panel.

Nice find! Spotting a Stan Sakai interior in the wild is almost as rare as seeing a published bit of Jeff Smith's work. The combined work on the last panel is really charming as well.

The composition and inks on this are awesome and so is the dialogue. Love this one, killer page!

This is obviously a gorgeous page and I completely agree about it being fantastic both visually and as a piece of sequential storytelling. Kingdom Come is probably Ross' and Mark Waid's best work and a great response to the height of 90s edginess. Incredible pickup.

Typing this as I wait in the Dawntrail login queue: this is a fantastic rendition of one of the game's coolest LB3s. Midgardsormr looks awesome and I really like how the Dragonlancer gear is recognizable even in a more simplified form.

Love the ref to the House of X #1 cover. The Altar was an interesting idea and a very cool visual. Great soap opera family moment here too!

I 100% got this for the Gorgon panels. It's not a visually exciting page but I think it's very recognizable for people who've read Hickman's run. I love how Gorgon goes from 0 to CHOOSE VIOLENCE and then Cyclops, of all people, has to defuse the ensuing awkward social situation. It's a great example of heroes and villains being tossed together on Krakoa and trying to meet each other in the middle.

I'm bummed Gorgon never made it past X of Swords but at least he went out like a boss.

The composition and inks on this are really nice and so is Sharpe's fantastic lettering. I suppose this would have come out during the final years of hand-lettering being commonplace, huh?

Dang. Love the having a bad day but doing it in style vibe haha. If you're gonna have a villain ("villain") era then you might as well make it an awesome one. Great commission idea.

Even looking at the tiny thumbnail image, I immediately thought "that looks like X-Men Unlimited #1!" Good reference and the execution of this is great.

This is 2 out of my top 3 Cyclops looks (the other being the Larraz revision to Bachalo's). Nice choices! Dave Johnson did a great job contrasting the two eras.

Thanks again! Nice catch on Iron Man's reflection on Ant-Man's helmet also, I didn't notice that at all. Little details like that can really elevate a page and that's pretty evident in the interiors of this book too.

This was a fun, weird X-Men Legacy arc. The whole Carey run is great and underrated. Clay Mann's designs for Age of X were awesome and I love the detail on the mask in this.

I really like the close-up framing Alex Ross did for the Snapshots covers. They made this series really stand out. This is also a prime opportunity to make a "King of Abs-lantis" reference so I am now doing that.

One of my fave covers from this run. Nice!

The floating panel layout is very cool and the inks on this are gorgeous. Awesome double page spread!

I dug this annual out of a quarter bin as a kid because of the rad Mignola cover and I couldn't tell you what happened in the main story. This backup story really stuck with me back then and as I got a little older I really realized how significant it was.

Mystique and Destiny are pretty much the definition of "be gay, do crime" and the world is better for it. It's kinda wild that it took until 2020 to confirm that yeah they're married by the way because the subtext was basically text at that point haha.

That's a wonderful story and your partner created a fantastic piece of art. Those photos really show how intensely personal art can be and it's great that your aunt got the chance to truly enjoy it.

Great team shot and I especially love Frenzy (totally an underrated fave) being front and center.

Bankruptcy might have been one of the best things to happen to Marvel because this run put Marvel back on the map for a lot of people, me included, and the Bendis/Mack/Maleev stuff that comes after was fire. The no crossovers, focused storytelling during these years was great. This was the first issue I picked up and it's easily the most memorable cover of the run.

I remember being so excited for this run to start because I loved the 90s cartoon but didn't like mid-late 90s X-Men comics. When I opened #114 to this splash page I just knew I was in for something special. I still get that feeling whenever I see this page at the start of a New X-Men re-read.

Claremont is obviously the GOAT when it comes to X-Men but Morrison is always going to be my favourite. I read New X-Men as monthlies during my formative high school years and it had a big impact on me. I love watching Morrison play with comic book tropes and they really brought out that while Cyclops might seem like a shining paragon he ultimately, though he tries to be, isn't one. It's a character archetype that was dropped on him as a kid and perhaps he's a little resentful of how his life has had to revolve around that definition.

In the 20ish years since (oh no, am I old??) Scott's been the rigid killjoy leader guy that people expect while also subverting that and changing into more of a radical civil rights activist than a typical superhero. It's an arc that I think rules and a lot of it is thanks to Morrison, who clearly loves Scott's character, then went and wrecked the everloving shit out of the poor dude's life like any great comic writer should.

Since you've already got an amazing Quitely page in your collection, I imagine finding a Jimenez one is going to be less of a mountain to climb haha!

I didn't love BotA when I first read it but it's grown on me a lot because of how ridiculously convoluted and messy the character dynamics get ("Old young Jean. I can't believe I just said that"). I got a kick out of your description because it's both accurate and probably inscrutable for people for people who haven't read it haha.

This page has a lot of great stuff in it. I especially love Kitty going off on the X-Men and Rachel being put in the super weird position of having to teach psychic defense techniques to a teenager who is also the time-displaced version of her alternate reality mom who probably taught her those techniques in the first place. X-Men!

Pretty cool seeing a M'sian artist on a cover that's going to be everywhere in May! Having so many characters and vampires in one piece is great.

When I read this issue I actually wondered if the backgrounds on these pages were all digital. It's pretty rad that they were mostly ink work. The Frank Martin colours in this sequence were really fantastic too. Nice pickup! I really liked the heart-to-heart that Jean and Scott have in this issue.

I'm a big fan of how brutal and intense Maria's lines are. Her work is instantly recognizable. Rad commissions!

Love the inclusion of Happy Pants Panther (and his powers of ESP!!) in this. That was a really fun and unexpected part of Marvel Knights BP.

I really appreciate the work you did alongside Sal Velluto and Christopher Priest on this run as well by the way. I was a 90s X-Men cartoon kid and got into comics through that, but I don't think I was truly excited about comics until the Marvel Knights era. Black Panther was a huge part of that for me. Thanks!

I like how this page features two weirdly recurring Emma plotlines: 1) joyriding in another X-Man's body and 2) starting shit with an X-Woman who is 1000% going to mess up her day later. I love Emma but she can't seem to resist sneaking up behind sleeping tigers with a giant airhorn haha.

The composition and scale on this page is great and you can still get the sense of unshackled joy from it even without the dialogue and context. Cool pickup!

I watched this show when I was maaaaybe a little too young for it and I very clearly remember the end of this episode being harrowing hahaha. Totally a memorable and instantly recognizable moment.

Rad moment from a crossover event that exists and is a comic book. This is likely the most significant page of the event. That last panel got referenced a lot during the following era and is instantly recognizable. Very nice piece of history that you've picked up!

I'll say this for AvX: the consequences from this page ended up being really interesting. The fugitive side of X-Men split openly rejected a lot of model minority myth tropes and that's thematically something that's carried pretty heavily over into the current era. Totally an unintended impact but it's been interesting to see perspectives shift on that over the years.

The Granov covers for Curse of the Mutants are really memorable ones to me. Nice choice on having him reference that!

Congrats on picking this up! This is probably one of Marvel Now's most memorable covers and Stuart Immonen and Wade von Grawbadger were on fire on this run.

Mike Carey and Bachalo/Townsend were such a good combo on this book. Great page from Messiah Complex. The action, detail, and general chaos on this page are really nice.

Great point about the style differences between Dodson and Janson. It's a clash but it's a fun one and the end result looks fantastic. This is also a really nice example of Dodson's work as his style was still evolving. The screentone on Magneto's helmet is sweet too.

I was thinking that the notes along the page edge were a neat look into process but after reading the comment thread, the notes certainly add to the theory that there was a handoff somewhere. Since the last page was a cliffhanger disconnected from the rest of the story, maybe there was a late script change somewhere that needed a fill-in.

Regardless, this is a cool story moment for both Betsy and Warren and that top right panel has a very nice sense of place and scale to it. The storytelling is well done and this was a pretty significant bit of character history.

Okay, so, I am not rulling out the possibility, but I will say the sandwich is an incredible merging of form, function, and delightfulness and is a feat of Earth-based engineering.

Also, consider this: when the Federation opened up Deep Space Nine, the Klingons set up a restaurant there like, immediately, and hooked Starfleet officers on a dish of live, blood-eating worms when they had the ability to replicate almost anything they wanted. That's confidence. Qo'noS knew what they had and they were going to let everybody know. I don't see that kind of swagger on Knowhere or Arakko!

It wouldn't surprise me that, on a cultural reconnaissance mission, Skrull agents ended up at a Costco, picked up a $1.50 hotdog and realized with horror that "by Veranke, people would defect for an all-beef. We need to Secret Invade these primitive barbarians right now before anyone can find out."

Great cover from this run! I love how chaotic and complex Bachalo's work can get. I really liked the Marvel Now! trade dress on the covers from this time too.

Josh Cassara does some pretty great body horror and the opening arc of X-Force was strong. It's been great seeing his art become one of the defining looks for this era of X-comics.

This was one of the first comics I ever bought as a kid! Awesome seeing this here. It's a sweet group shot and I've always thought the wistful raindrop effect on it was cool.
