DescriptionThere were many good reasons to acquire this pretty awesome artwork, 2 consecutive dailies from the story "Carno's Carnivores".First, there is a classical beautiful lady, with a great play of shadows and lights. Then the real eye-catcher for me was the perfectly correctly done Jaguar XK120 dashboard! Well, an easy task for Alex Raymond once he had this car in his garage ;-) Check the additional photo for what I mean. And last but not least, look at the last panel! Raymond again exceeded all expectations by creating a new pattern (I don't remember seeing this earlier) to present headlights at night with a light fog around there. There are 2 vanishing points in the lights, perfect perspective drawn, and depth so beautifully created. This is so elegantly done in the style of van Gogh / pointillism! And think again, this was "just" for a daily newspaper, for the next day something else, 6 times weekly! Needing to underline again also: look again carefully, there is not a single drop correction fluid used! All Raymond's lines are perfectly done without any mistakes, stunning artwork. Stunning! The end panels with the shadows overpower the center story panels and create weight and visual balance.

Fabulous pair of dailies!!! I'm really curious as to your final framing solution... :-)

Now it is half done, satin window mat (satin makes black much darker, not reflecting light) with silver rim list, just like instruments rings in Jags dashboard ;-) But the frame I am still thinking and looking for a suitable one. The backboard (where the artwork is mounted with photo corners only, so no any tape is used) and window mat wasn't 100% adjusted for the photo, so it looks like the window mat is a bit overlapping the panel. I must confess it was a bit tight dimensioning, or maybe I made a mistake, or the frame shop, or Raymond made 2mm higher dailies in 1955 vs 1953, from where I took the measurements.
