DescriptionHere's a cool daily from the classic newspaper strip Big Ben Bolt, primarily drawn by John Cullen Murphy from its inception in 1950 through to 1978. It was written by Al Cap's brother Elliot Caplin. It's well known that he employed some of his artistic buddies (Al Williamson, Neal Adams, and several others) to occasionally cover for him over the decades he worked on it, so I'd be curious to hear if anyone has intel on whether this might have been worked on by others, but I'm assuming it's from Murphy's own hand. I'm delighted to have an example with a mysterious boxer in training, great closeups of the titular character and one of his fellow reporters, and a great street scene. Love the facial expressions, hands, period clothes, gestures and staging. Thanks for taking a look! Social/Sharing |

What's the song? "She used to be my girl..!" Nice daily - Murphy is underrated on BBB!

JCM is absolutely underrated. Glad this passed on to me ultimately, even if I wound up paying more than I would have had I taken it off your hands at CAFlive lol

Awesome Big Ben Bolt strip from the incredibly talented John Cullen Murphy! You don't see too much John Cullen Murphy art around, but he was an artist who was well-respected by his peers. The whole strip is beautifully drawn and inked by Murphy! Nicely balanced compostion with two tight closeups separated by a wide shot from outside a building. Terrific work, great pick-up!
