Description

Jim Steranko designed Dr. Bones, a cosmic treasure hunter. (See additional image.) Each of the six novels in this pulp series was written by a different author so the whole series could be published at about the same time. In this final installment, written by "Thomas Wylde," Dr. Bones and his competitor Bart Charles are on a planet whose inhabitants are waiting for a doomsday prediction to come true. Is there a true prophet, or just a chance for profit?

The black guy is Bones' sidekick Jackson. They're scanning some crystals or something, while their lady friend Sylvie poses dramatically. You can see the meteors in the background, falling on the planet in fulfillment of the prophecy that they didn't take seriously enough. Oops!

Phenominal! This is the kind of work that made Dorman so popular before painted work was popular in comics. It showed he had a high ceiling for whatever assignment he'd embrace.
