Description

As the seventh Cisco Kid strip, this is currently the earliest example I know of to have survived. Even so, Salinas has already established a solid feel for how it would look over the decade plus run he will put into it. His penchant for realism, enhanced by a fluidity of movement, would generate what is arguably the greatest daily strip of the period.

The exquisite center panel displays all the wonderful subtlety of his skills through white highlights, picking out gestures and fine details from the shadows. No dialogue is necessary to convey the substance of the scene.

Additionally, it's interesting to note that with many, if not all, of these early strips there are adjustments made to Cisco's character. In this case, white out slims his jacket, which had been originally drawn a bit looser, transforming it into his signature form fitting look.

Very nice and interesting about his uniform. Can't even picture it any other way. Going to have to pull out my reprints!

Congratulations Tom! I'm really happy to see that these three strips are in the collection of someone that loves Salinas/Cisco as much as I do! Salinas use of light and shadow always amazes me.
