DescriptionAmazing Spider-Man Annual #3 p2 John Romita : Layouts, Don Heck : Pencils Mike Esposito (as Mike Demeo) InksIf you loved Avengers growing up as much as I did, you know that there are a few crossovers which are just as much Avengers issues as the main title - I would put this issue in that category (as well as X-Men #9 and Fantastic Four #26). In this issue the Avengers invite Spider-Man to apply for membership and give him the impossible task of capturing the Hulk! But before the action begins, on this page we get a glimpse of the early Marvel Universe. We have every Avenger present, except Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who's powers have mysteriously disappeared. We have Iron Man and Thor present to participate in the meeting, even though they were not active members at the time; and the Avengers freely admit to knowing so little about Spider-Man that they agree to seek out another hero, Daredevil, who they also know very little about, as a character reference! Layouts by John Romita and what I believe is his signature on the bottom of the page. Social/Sharing |

Look how he gets all six Avengers into that first panel – and a couple more. Awesome page!

To get people to buy the higher priced annuals, Spidey had some major crossovers go down! Some casual readers may only just buy the annuals. This one being the first since Ditko left, the Bullpen pulled out all the stops with the Avengers guest starring! It's almost a non stop parade of greatness with only panel 3 giving us a visual break to have us refocus.

Classic goodness from the Marvel Age of comics--perfect example of the integrated world that Stan, Jack, and the gang established, which made the Marvel Universe feel so real to readers. Gorgeous Romita art and great content!
