My annual piece from Alex, and I wanted to venture outside of comics a bit to see Alex's interpretation of La Calavera Catrina. The imagery is iconic, so I'm sure at some point you've seen a representation in Mexican culture.

Alex also added a sword, which another friend was very quick to point out to that this could also pass for Nuestra Señora de la Santa Muerte: a symbolization for Death, and seen as a protector in the LGBTQ and sex-workers communities. As I have LGBTQ friends, it makes the piece that much more meaningful to me (even if that wasn't the original intent).

*I understand this can also be viewed as Maria from Deadly Class. She's synonymous with the La Calavera Catrina, so I don't mind. It's art, and can be whatever you interpret of it.

You really can see the movements in the flamenco performed with flamboyance and flair. The human form doing these rhythmic movements with passion and heat is a treat to see and a part of it is captured here in Maleev's deadly painting!
