DescriptionHere's a page from the start of the "zaboik" hunting trial our hero and his antagonists must pass. This was such a landmark book IMO, being the first series with painted interiors (or at least among the first...Corben and some others certainly made some earlier painted stories that were serialized in Heavy Metal, for instance, and Epic Magazine had at least one painted story [Johnny Badhair by Phil Hale] by the end of it's run and maybe sooner, but I don't recall any mainstream comics doing this before Silverheels). This page has lots of great interactions between the competing parties, with partially hidden faces emoting anger or surprise expressed with a lone eye or an open mouth, along with some snide expressions on characters we know will get what's coming to them at some point. Even the smallest faces on the page convey personality and emotion. This story made an impression on me and I'm delighted the pages still exist in 2023 and are still in such great shape! Thanks again to Scott Hampton for a smooth transaction! And thanks for taking a look! Social/Sharing |

Truly special with the format making these mini masterworks! Scott Hampton strings the panels and story together with both the line and painted colors. Each one leads the eye to the next panel to drive the narrative even without the diaogue. Very refines work as there are multiple color shades, patterns, and tones that contribute to the exotic look for the alien creatures.

Wonderful example from an immaculately painted story. Thank goodness Pacific went the extra mile to print this on better paper. But obviously the art and colors still look better in person.

Ashley Pippin of Graceville, Florida, caught his second pig in row Wednesday night at the National Peanut Festival’s greased pig scramble.
Pippin said his strategy for catching pigs was simple.
“You just jump on them,” he said.

I was only in my 2nd year of reading and collecting comics when this came out, with little money and therefore not able to afford to buy non-superhero comics as often as I would've liked. Silverheels was one I wished I could've afforded. Not for the genre, because I'm not a big Science Fiction fan, but strictly because of how mindblowingly superior the art was to most superhero comics being published at the time. A few years later when I had a bit more money, I jumped all over Scott Hampton's Pigeons From Hell graphic novel, which in spite of having sold off my collection of comics in 1994, I still managed to retain my copy of. A great looking page, Artless, congratulations on the acquisition!

The third and sixth panels are especially cool, imo, with the great angle in the first with that excited alien dog, and that wonderful shared look. It's a gorgeous painted page. Congrats on a historic nab!

Drop dead gorgeous page from a very memorable book. Scott Hampton really put his all into this title. You can see all the effort that went into just this one page. It's always interesting to me to see whether an artist can really make an alien world actually come to life or not. And clearly Scott did. I love the way the action flows from panel to panel. That third panel in the middle really is the star of this page, I totally buy the alien zaboiks racing off to escape capture. Fantastic page from a fantastic book.
