DescriptionI combined two favorites with this piece. I have been a huge fan of Dave Stevens' Rocketeer since it first premiered in the pages of Starslayer. It combined my love of Pulp, Golden Age Aviation, The Thirties, and beautiful art. Magic in a Bottle! Dave has left us much too soon. This piece was from The Cartoon Art Museum's Tribute show honoring Dave and his iconic character. Many beautiful pieces were highlighted, but this one stood out to me.I first started following the work of Brent Anderson during his run on Marvel's Kazar. Lost worlds and jungle adventure! He brought the book, and characters, to life in a wonderful fashion. I've followed his work through the years, and always enjoyed it. For years, I wanted to add one of his pieces to my collection. I'm finally able to do so with this amazing piece. It captures the spirit of the character and his era. Brent also included a reminiscence of visiting the studio, and seeing Dave at work on his Rocketeer pages. I'll include that as an attachment to this post. I think the studio mates mentioned were Richard Hescox and Bill Stout, two wonderful artists in their own right. The unfinished leg on Butch is another tribute to Dave's quest for perfection. Nicely refined work by Andersen! It's done as a love letter from illustrator to illustrator as he uses Steven's line and touches.

Marcus,
It truly is a love letter to Dave and his creation. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Brent is terrific. Really like the rendering and the expression on the young man's face. Congrats!

Duke,
He did a great job on this tribute to Dave. I, too, love the expression and surroundings. Glad you enjoyed it.
