DescriptionWith a quote from Shakespeare’s 'Hamlet' on the title page this dark mini-epic drama follows the tone of its inspiration: "What may this mean, that thou, dead corpse, again, in cómplete steel, Revisit’st thus the glimpses of the moon, Making night hideous" (Hamlet, Act I, Scene IV) It opens with the lead part, Misteria, questioning her origin and finding her upbringing a deceit, she goes in search of the truth. Needless to say a lot of dramatic scenarios are packed into this 105 page pocket comic book. No holds barred with the graphics and all are centred around her quandary as an attractive penniless young woman seeking help in her quest and forever being taking advantage of by all she comes in contact with. That is until she finally meets the mountain wizard who comes to her aid in the nick of time, as she is about to be stabbed by the huge brute of a husband who has just raped her guided by his despicable wife in their remote log cabin! In equally earthy retribution, the wizard shoots the two assailants with a twelve-gauge and carries the swooning victim, to tend her in his magical cave. Prior to this we see her here, just after she has jumped of a train from Milan, as it reaches the edge of the Garfagnana mountains, to escape capture after the murder of her second victim for his sexual harassment. The last quarter of the book is concerned with the Wizard helping with her identity crisis which involves summoning up the Devil and, in turn, his demand for (anal) satisfaction with the initially reluctant Misteria, after a promise of rewarding her with the answer to her quest, This is the dramatic appearance of her long lost unknown mother, Cimiteria: a kind of ‘happy ending’. No doubt it would be tricky to perform on the stage! Social/Sharing |
