This is a book that I've somehow never read. Seeing art like this makes me want to check it out.

I can't wait until he pops his claws! Loebs shows a lot of Joe Kubert and American frontier comics from Europe influence in these pages.

I think at this point it's safe to call you Messner-Loebsman, Rick. Or perhaps Journeyman?

Journeyman has a nice ring to it, since Wolvie Fan has already been taken ;)

I'm not familiar with the series, but both art and script look great and perfectly match each other. Journey stories are always so fascinating!

I read naughty, then some screams of pain/joy. Then the sailor talk started. Oh dear, oh dear. It's even worse than I thought.

I have no memory of Journey ever having had any adult content in it, so I never actually thought they had sex. But I have to say I love the page even more now, simply because it's done in such a way that ANYONE could be forgiven for thinking what John and I thought, without the context of the first 2 pages! But I appreciate you adding that context, Rickster!

You must have forgotten about issue #2 pg.15 (Wolverine's dream sequence) - you won't see that in a Marvel comic ;)

Great page! This was my favorite indy series back when it was on the shelves, and I'm sad and surprised it doesn't appear more often on CAF or in contemporary discussions on classic comics. Great characters and storytelling, and completely original IMO

This is a rare (and funny) gem. I was an avid fan back in the day (1980s) and in spite of having read this issue a number of times never saw any homosexual subtext in the page. Ironically, later on in this issue is a very amusing scene when the two pictured here have been joined by a third person who hears Wolverine lament that it is cold weather like they are having that makes him long for “a blanket filled with woman” which leads the third person to say that there are “practices” which a man travelling alone in the wilderness can use to ease tension and bring relief. They talk about this in earshot of the Englishman who has his back to them but is facing us the reader. The third person then debates loudly with Wolverine whether or not it might be an idea to initiate the Englishman into these “activities” so each of them can take the edge off. All the while you see the Englishman in close-up, pouring with sweat as it is running through his mind what the other two might be proposing. If you don’t know what ensues you will have to seek out the comic to find out what happens. This page – Wolverine in every panel – is a fitting companion to your cover to ish 1. As one big Journey fan to another – thank you for sharing!

Loebs always reminds of Will Eisner with his inking technique. This is a great read.
