Description

Aztec: The Ultimate Man # 1 1996

Aztek arrives in Vanity when Piper attempts a robbery because his daughter has been kidnapped. Bloodtype, a ruthless crimefighter assaults Piper and is about to kill him when Aztek intervenes. Bloodtype and Aztek have a battle which leads to a large explosion in which both Bloodtype and Piper are killed. Before Piper expires, he tells Aztek his name - Curtis Falconer - and asks him to save his daughter. Aztek adopts the dead man's name.

1996 Grant Morrison was also the year of his JLA, so there was a lot of good will for fans to check out this hero that came out of nowhere.  DC was famous for giving heroes their own title out of nowhere and had there been some build up in JLA, this series may have lasted longer.
