DescriptionHappy Holidays! The imitable George Hage sent me this incredible illustration as part of a Secret Santa exchange, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Even though I haven't read the books yet (they are devilishly difficult to get ahold of!), this is now the second illustration I have celebrating the series, and there is something about it that really brings out the best in artists.Artyom created this piece for the Hercegnovski Strip Festival and it was used for promotional material and the program guide, and he notes, "This piece is the rare example of my pencils taking more time and effort than inking." The way he has crafted Corto's legs out of the environment is fantastic, and convey's both crispness and style. It's a great portrait of our hero at ease, ready to indulge in the relaxations of Montenegro. He did augment the piece with some digital work, and George was kind enough to also enclose a print of the final image. As usual, I am blown away by the thoughtfulness and generosity of my friends in the hobby. Thanks again, George! Social/Sharing |

Fun piece! It was the cool effect of the pants legs that I noticed first!

Excuse me, but can I see you for your style?
We all hit like if you seek real thrill
I got an Arty nice illustration sailin’ at sea again
Yeah, I can hear Pratt
Been saved again by the good Hage luck
I got something exchange, you know, it’s Artyom
Yes, I know when you think Maltese, you never shut up
Yeah, I can hear Pratt
But what if I'm a mermaid
In these jeans of negative space, still comics
Hey, but Corto’s here
'Cause sometimes, I said sometimes I hear my voice
And it's been here silent Maltese years

An inventive style, yet still in keeping with the classic Hugo Pratt approach!

I absolutely adore his disgn work on the water spout, so much little details to take in on just one object. Thanks for sharing!

Who knew that George had you pegged spot on as an AT fan?! Awesome layout, layers, and some tricky stuff for the eyes here :) Congrats, M!
