DescriptionWhen I heard a year ago that former Mighty Morphin Power Ranger cast member Amy Jo Johnson (Kimberly Hart aka The Pink Ranger) was collaborating on a Power Rangers comic, I was excited enough. But when I heard she was having her first store signing with her boyfriend/co-writer at Gotham Central Comic Book Store - my neck of the woods - I couldn't pass up the chance to do a tribute sketch. This is the culmination of two weeks of work, etched on 11 x 14" Canson 98 lb mixed media paper with mixed media. Based upon the concept of the book, I decided to show an older Kimberly taking up the Pink Ranger mantle once more. Further, since this book was also a tribute to the late Jason David Frank aka Tommy Oliver/Green Ranger, I decided the frame should be his helmet. It also ties into the story in that the Green Ranger mantle has been taken up by...well that would be spoilers. It took a lot of googling photo reference for Amy's face to get the tones right; you'd be surprised how hard it is to get a side profile of an actress/writer/director these days. Anyway, I held off on debuting this online until she graciously accepted it tonight. This truly was a labor of love for me, as I've been a Power Ranger fan since I first saw it when I was 13 30 years ago. And I feel thankful that she thought it was beautiful and thanked me.
