Description

SOLD, thanks! Here's great original ink art by Floyd Gottfredson for the Mickey Mouse daily newspaper comic strip on May 13, 1963. Signed Walt Disney. Walt Disney Productions. King Features Syndicate. "Circle Fine Art" gallery sticker and Clark Cierlak auction sticker on reverse.
"Unca Mickey!!" shown framed. EBay listing is unframed.
This from Bill Blackbeard in The Comic-Book Book (1973): "Easily ranking with the half-dozen finest new comic-strip artists to emerge from the 1930s" and "..until Max Willis, a Hollywood writer and book dealer, penetrating the veil of secrecy at last some six years ago, sought out and identified the extraordinary Floyd Gottfredson."

Without Gottfredson's dailys, Mickey's hold on the public and his popularity may not have been as strong. The strip filled in the gaps between the animation to keep him part of daily life and become a fixture in pop culture. This strip shows that the humor and quality didn't waiver even 30 plus years later and Gottfredson had about 12 more years in him before retirement.

Thanks for your comments! I think I'm going too have to remove this from the original "Circle Fine Art" frame to examine this piece up close. The zipatone is in good shape. I wonder though about a pre-printed title that has likely mat/burn/fade along the top border. Best, David
