Something a little different to kick off my next string of updates for the new year. A double post. The last piece of 2023 and the first piece of 2024. Since I received one of the pieces four days before the year ended, and the other piece on the first day of the new year, it just made sense to post them together. Plus the very cool fact that they were both gifts sort of bonds the two pieces together.

This very cool Travis Charest sketch cover comes courtesy of CAF�s own Lance Suarez. I�ve known Lance since maybe 1985/86. That would make him the second longest friend I�ve had in this hobby. I�ve always known that Lance had this sneaky side to him, but this gift was ninja sneaky. Sometime in the afternoon of New Years Day, I get a text from Marcus telling me that Lance had dropped something off for me at my front door. I thought that he was actually standing there waiting for me to open the door or something, but when I did, all I saw was this envelope on my doorstep. I opened it to find this very cool sketch cover of Bettie Page by Charest. This has the distinction of being my very first sketch cover comic ever! And of course the added distinction of being my first piece of new art for 2024. So my thanks to the uber sneaky, ninja stealthy, Lance Suarez for this kind and generous gift. The next time I need something done on the down low, I�ll know who to call.

Great likeness and love the intensity of the expression! I favor compositions like this with one eye located midway across the page, and teh signature placement works for me despite the bold move to have it at eye level. The lines are great as well
