I love Sam Kieth's work. But for some reason whenever I see his original art in person, I'm often underwhelmed. With all the detail he adds to his art you would think that that's impossible. I can't explain it. When this piece went up for auction it looked amazing on the auction website, but in the back of my mind I was afraid that if I were to win, I would be disappointed with it. I decided to gamble because I don't really have a decent Kieth piece and he was the co-creator of Sandman, one of my favorite DC characters. When it arrived, I opened the package with a bit of fear, but fear gave way to astonishment. This is a stunning piece. The image of Morpheus is large on the board. His elongated face propped on his proportionally small frame gives him a haunting presence. The shadows and hair over his eyes and cheeks just deepens the stir. I couldn't be happier with this piece. Something is going to have to be removed from my wall.
