Description

In the mid 1990s, Valiant provided ongoing work for many creators of the 1980s. This page is labelled "Bloodshot #1 of 2" because Mike Grell wrote a two parter for this action series, with Anderson on both pencils and inks. It's probably an inventory story, and they weren't sure exactly which issue numbers it would end up with. The action takes place in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday, as our hero protects a party-bound woman from the unwanted affections of "Papa Juju."

All the word balloons fell off, but the original page is scanned in the Additional Images. Computerized coloring was still coming of age, and Anderson uses crosshatching to provide tones and textures that would probably be handled digitally in later years.

Love the way the last panel is framed to show the abrupt change in action!

Really nice gritty Anderson street level style! I think the thought back then from artisits was to draw everything and leave nothing to chance for the coloring that they didn't fully trust at that point.
