Description

my last sketch at SDCC 2002 took all sunday to get but was damn well worth the wait. i was walking by artist alley and i passed by Jason's table. i was taken by his art right away. i'd never heard of him but he had some poison elves on his table (which i had read some of and enjoyed but never bought more than the first few books). i remember seeing how he drew bodies though and i just thought there was nothing else like him. i remember talking music with him (Tom Waits, Faith No More, and classical music -- all of which he knew more than me). my memory from here is foggy. i'm not sure if i left and came back or if Allen Spiegel came while i was talking to him but i remember just standing there trying not to interrupt a conversation between the two of them. i knew allen was the rep for a lot of the best artists in comics and that his booth was the who's who of folks i really loved that weren't 'typical comics' guys. i didn't want to interrupt but i also didn't want to walk away. i remember someone came up and tried to buy something and stood there for a while as well. i think i may have sold him the book he wanted just so Jason wouldn't lose the sale. when all this was done Jason asked me what i wanted and i basically just said "i like the way you draw". this is what he did for me. i've since gotten many more sketches and larger pieces from him but i'm honored and humbled that he remembers me by name and we always find a way to bring in faith no more (or mike patton) into any conversation. i have loved seeing his rise in the industry and i can't wait to see where he goes next.
