DescriptionFrom the Denis Kitchen Collection! When I saw the Denis Kitchen collection was being sold with Heritage Auctions I hoped to pick up a piece. I was traveling at the time the auctions were ending, which led to buying wifi on my flight home, which was a bit spotty. After missing on a few pieces I was very happy to win this great comics and music themed piece, April 2024.This is artist, musician Robert Armstrong's art for the Mickey Rat #2 Back Cover featuring an advertisement for Ordinary Records, which was Robert Crumb's record label under Kitchen Sink Press. The back cover features an ad for the record label's "River Blues" pressed as a 78 RPM record and was published in 1972. If you're interested, Robert Armstrong did a great interview with Noah VanSciver and talked about how this record came about while driving cross country on their way to Denis Kitchen's place: Here's the audio of the advertised song, "River Blues" for those of us that don't have a 78 rpm record play (technology that wasn't really in use when this record came out, ha!): Social/Sharing |

Done in the same manner of those Crumb record covers! Meticuous illustration work from every aspect. All hand done by Armstrong which is why it's impressive.

Kitchen is a giant in the underground comics movement, so it's great to see younger collectors recognize his contributions to the industry. Congrats, George, it's a fun piece!

Fantastic piece of music history, and such a cool illustrated advertisement. Love that he drew each member of the band! The hand lettering is the icing on top. Congrats on this one.
