DescriptionI'm very, very happy to pick up another mid-30s Little Orphan Annie daily by the great Harold Gray. This daily is not the most exciting in terms of action, but there are a couple of things that I really love about it. One, the strip features all three of the main characters. I've never owned a daily featuring them all together in one strip. And while Sandy plays the part of the strong, silent type here, he's in the room! Secondly, this is the very beginning of the Eli Eon story arc, a great story in 1935. The story started just the day before this one, in a Sunday page.Harold Gray's vintage Little Orphan Annie artwork remains scarce, so I'm thrilled to add another example to my collection. Great strip, distinctive art style and lettering. A fascinating time capsule. Daddy Warbucks' dialogue in the last two panels brilliantly captures the gravity of the situation for people living through the Great Depression. And on top of everything, there's a magical character named Punjab as an ally? No wonder this strip sold newspapers like hotcakes.

I forgot to add that if someone put a dirty tramp in my bed he would be booted out and said individual could head back to the orphanage before tomorrow.

You don't know what hard times are, daddy! Hard times are when the textile workers around this country are out of work and got four, five kids, and can't pay their wages, can't buy their food. Hard times are when the auto workers are out of work and they tell them 'Go home!'. And hard times are when a man has worked at a job thirty years -- thirty years! -- they give him a watch, kick him in the butt and say 'Hey, a computer took your place, daddy!'. That's hard times! That's hard times.

It's the quiet ones that get you and wiggle into the heart. Not an explosive action piece, but unquestionably it definitely checks the boxes! Kudos!
