DescriptionThrough some pretty savvy marketing/promotion, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn characters were all over Instagram through the month of January via his Spawnuary contest. He challenged artists to come up with pieces that featured his characters with the promise that selected winners would be featured as future published covers.Of course I was very interested in the Gunslinger Spawn pieces and this one by John Amor was one that immediately jumped out to me as a standout submission! I love that it has a movie poster vibe with its layout. For me it feels like a modern poster for wonderfully gritty late 60’s/early 70’s spaghetti western. This ultimately wasn’t selected as one of the winners but it remains my favorite! Social/Sharing |

So cool with the different types of illustrative hatching! John Amor knows how to intensify and be loose with the line density to create the heroic towering presence.

All the while using one of my favorite aspect of Leone's spaghetti westerns, the juxtaposition of a close up with a wide shot! It's all right here!
