DescriptionHere he was, returning to a normal life. Making progress, returning to stability after absolute mayhem... Angstrom Levy was finally settling in to his new norm. That is, until Mark Grayson returned! After the tragic events of the 'Death of Everyone' arc (~#97-#102) Kirkman refuses to let off the gas, slamming the series with a head-spinning slurry of major events that dramatically shift the dynamics of the franchise. Earth faces another major catastrophe, the Viltrum empire ushers in a new age, and Angstrom Levy makes his dramatic reappearance! While issue #103 contains important dialogue and conversation, it's most known for its shocking conclusion and setup for the infamous revelations of issue #104. Page 19 takes place as Levy finally makes his move to strike, taking Eve captive in a dramatic full-page splash! The power dynamic is made clear as Levy looms over Eve, almost taking control of the composition itself. The stakes in this scene are raised significantly by the fact that Eve is unable to use her powers at this point in the series for fear of injuring her unborn child. As Mark tries to rescue her, Levy sends him to the same dimension he placed the alternate Marks in issue #60 - concluding with another shocking splash reveal! Something particularly interesting about this page is how quickly the power dynamic shifts in issue #104, Eve is able to take control of the situation with ease by using simple logic and quick wit to appeal to Angstrom's sensibilities. Because of this conversation Levy finally squashes his series-spanning beef with Invincible, though it may have been too little too late. Levy's attack would also end up triggering a snowball effect that eventually leads to Robot's betrayal in issue #108, and his eventual takeover through issues #111-#114. "When Mark gets back here and defeats you... I'll get back to my life, I'll have his baby, and we'll live happily ever after. My reward for not focusing on revenge. Do you ever stop to consider what you could be accomplishing if you stopped blaming Mark for something that wasn't his fault...?" -Eve, Issue #104 Social/Sharing |
