Description

This lot includes a page of one of a kind original comic book art as published in Marvel's Howard the Duck v2 (magazine) #3, as well as the magazine itself, released in 1979 for the story "A Christmas for Carol!". The art on this page (labeled page 18 or page 21 counting ads) was drawn by the legendary GENE COLAN (1926-2011) and inked by DAVE SIMONS (1954-2009). The board shows browning from age after 45 years and the white paint corrections are prominent through that. There is tape on the backside. The magazine issue is from Dave's personal comps of his work, so it is a worn reading copy.

The artwork page has Howard and Carol Starkowitz on Santa Claus' sleigh with the big guy himself along with his reindeer and elves. This item was owned by Dave Simons, the only vintage, published page from this series in his personal collection. The magazine came from Dave's personal collection of his comps. Dave served on the Inkwell Awards core committee from late 2008 until his death in June of 2009. It was donated to support the non-profit Inkwell Awards by Dave's sister Bette 15 years after Dave's passing. Proceeds will go towards the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Kubert School created 15 years ago. A letter of authentication signed by Bob Almond will accompany all items sold to verify that they came from the Dave Simons collection and whether the item is authenticated as having Dave�s or someone else' signature.
