Description

I will confess that I am not familiar with Infantino's work in the '60s. And frankly as a kid I was not overly enamoured with his style in the books he did for Marvel in the late '70s. Now, I have come to appreciate his quirky and dynamic style, in those years often completed by Palmer's distinctive inks.

Nova was Marvel's attempt to launch a new Spiderman, teenage high school drama included. The attempt was actually hit-or-miss, still the sci-fi overtones resonated with me.

This page has two great panels, including the "human rocket" effect whereby half of Nova's body is blurred in the jet linework. Great inks by Palmer!

Yeah, the rocketmen concept was a specialty of Infantino going back to Strange Adventures days with Adam Strange. His style was a lot rougher and Palmer is known to work that style too, so a pretty good match and representation of this artist combo for this action packed page.

Fantastic Nova page by the great Carmine Infantino! Two great scenes of Nova here, one with him zooming up from underwater in panel two, and one with him landing a flying haymaker in panel four. Gorgeous inks from Tom Palmer really make the scenes extraordinary! Great pick-up, congrats!
