The panel layout is interesting (in a good way). I particularly like the last panel, which is chilling. The rain looks like old school use of a razor? Congratulations!

Thanks, yes, razor technique.

Jon Sable Freelance was on my monthly pull list for most of the original run, but the first 8 or so issues were among the best comics on the newsstands at the time. Grell's storytelling mechanic improved exponentially between his work on Warlord for DC and his creator-owned work. In Sable he seemingly implemented elements of the men's adventure magazine artists of the 1970s yielding a collage aspect to his panel pages that was fresh and unusual and extremely effective.

Beautiful artwork and really great story telling by the great Mike Grell.

The predator becomes the prey! Wonderful sense of modern 80's graphic design and Grell quality storytelling to justify the $1.00 cover price. Here in the second page, the characters and objects are allowed break out of the panel grids because the emotions for the battle climax can not be contained. Sweet use of zip at the end!

80's coloring is such a letdown sometimes - the inking here is fantastic!

Fantastic page from one of my favorite titles. Love how Mike was able to go from the jungles of Skartaris to these urban settings without missing a beat. The artwork and storytelling were every bit as wonderful and exciting as they were on Warlord, if not more so. They used to have ads in these books where you could order Sable swag. I remember getting a ball cap that I wore for years and years and years, until it was literally falling apart. Ah, the memories.

Another great example of art and inking playing so well together in this design work. Nice choices in that lower right panel to have the eye zero in on his face with that background.

Yes!!! Brings back some great memories. What Sable was known best for was the evening gown match against Luna.

Looks fantastic! Both the OA and colored page. Haven't read it but seems like it would've been a must read in the early 80s.

Gorgeous page - the decisions on what not to show and what to show on any given panel / page area are really distinctive

I haven't looked at these issues since the 80's, so this is a real treat and a true blast from the past! Beautiful sequential storytelling and rendering. Congrats on winning the pair of pages, Rick!
