Description

This is a very unique piece. I am still unsure what it was used for in its current state. It was a Terry and Pirates Sunday from 1946 and you can see the published version in the extra images. 6 panels were taken from this and reorganized and colored and then signed. This is 100% original art. The colorist is postulated to be Shel Dorf, Caniff's assistant (and Comicon founder). Regardless of who colored or why this was put together the way it was, it is an amazing sequence of art with Terry and Dragon Lady kissing!! Just WOW. I missed this on an auction site about a decade ago and it went to a friend. I have been coveting this piece ever since. One of those nagging regrets in the hobby that haunt you. 10 years later and a lot of extra cash and this is where it belongs. My wall space is limited but I feel this one needs to find its way onto my walls in the near future. Very happy to have this in my collection. Perhaps I am done collecting Caniff and can leave some crumbs for others:) We will see!!

As pointed out to me, another of these panels cut from the original but not in this lot found its way onto a cover for one of the reprint books.

Almost needless to say, if you have any panels from this Sunday, please let me know as I'd love to know where they are and maybe this can be put back together.

Why the hell are Terry and Dragon Lady kissing?!? Isn't he supposed to be like 13 years old? Super cool original either way!

By this point in the story Terry is an adult and was a fighter pilot with the USAF. If I recall he is already in the freelance airline service with Hot Shot Charlie by this point in the storyline. The kiss was orchestrated to capture Terry in a compormising position and photographed for blackmail purposes. The Dragon Lady is always thinking four steps ahead on the chessboard and has the end game in her sights.

WOW! This is amazing! Regardless of who the colorist was, the color pallete is so well handled and incredibly vibrant. So this is the piece that you were going after......Congratulations Jeff...not just another home run, but a grand slam! Simply beautiful...all of this, and of course, the incomparable Dragon Lady.

Stunning and one of the many memorably moments at the end of Caniff's Terry run. Shame it was chopped up like this espcially missing that one stand out panel. Odd that this is hand colored on the original vs a stat, but what a lucky find. I hope you can put the Sunday back together. You might say your done with your Caniff collection but never say never. Congrats
