DescriptionSimon Bisley has been on the Bob Larkin homage want list for quite a while now but has always escaped me due to a string of bad luck with setting up commissions online or missing him at various conventions. That all changed at Heroes Con 2024 when I saw him on the list and was able to set up a piece for the show. Heroes con is my go-to for getting commissions in this series via setup or pick up, which adds to the nostalgia I have for the best comic convention out there IMHO.Simon was GREAT to deal with and was really into the idea as he was obviously very familiar with the Hulk poster art when I shared with him. I still had the Jonathan Wayshak example in my portfolio from OAX and when I showed him, he dropped a few exclamatory bombs in the knowledge he’d be following such a great example in the series. Needless to say, he was a big fan of Jonathan’s art after seeing his version. My expectations were exceeded when I picked this up at the show – I love how much it captures the Biz look, while being an obvious perfect homage. HOME RUN. After picking up the piece, I wandered over to Jonathan’s table that was just around the corner. I shared the Biz piece, and he shared how big a fan he was of Simon and had wanted to meet him but never took the opportunity. I went back to Simon’s table and walked him over so that this pair of stellar artists could meet. See pics for the meeting. Great art, great experience! Check here if you are interested in seeing the other homage pieces done in this series. Social/Sharing |

Can't beat great art paired with a great experience! Came out great, too, with that BIG brow. A worthy add to the homage collection. And SO cool you got to get a meet set up between Simon and Jonathan! Congrats all around!

All kinds of scary, but in a good way of course. Great story too. Love that you were able to introduce Biz and Jon to each other.

This rocks with the Hulk and by extension Bisley's animal charisma! You might have infected Wayshak with the Bisley style and swagger going forward!

Thanks Marcus! Based on how they both appreciated each other's art, maybe some infection cross pollentation!

Time for a li'l rhyme...
I do believe, everyone would agree
That Bisley and Hulk, were meant to be.

Your statement is factual, indeed and for sure
I needed some great art, and Biz was the cure

It's amazing to see how detaled and nuanced these can all be from each other. Bisley does the subject justice, and it's even better to see it with the Wayshak piece! Congrats on another beauty, Dave!

Thanks TT - I couldn't agree more and that is what drives the series to continue. Pieces like these are the reason I keep going and as long as the great examples keep coming in, I will continue to look for new artists for the series.

Whoaaaa! Fantastic addition to the Bob Larkin Hulk Homage Collection. Simon Bisley was indeed the perfect artist to add to your ever-growing series of Hulk portraits. Biz did an incredible job on this. I love how angry Hulk is here. He's not just angry, he's seriously pissed. I love his near-neanderthal forehead, furrowed with discontent. And the angry set to his mouth and jaw add another dimension to Hulk's fierce demeanor. Biz's Hulk is what a Hulk should be--Frightening. This is not a Hulk you want to mess with. Killer commission, congrats!

Thanks Bill! I love how you captured the description! Very eloquent, or maybe smashing would be a more fitting adjective. I also love the furrowed brow - very simian in nature. Thanks so much!
