Description

During his second run drawing X-Men, Dave Cockrum had plenty of opportunities to portray Kitty Pryde, since Chris Claremont made her bildungsromans a key feature of the series in that era. She did eventually grow up, but it doesn't appear that her pet dragon Lockheed ever did, either in size or temperament.

The piece is large for a convention sketch, 11"x14". The blue pencil underdrawing is evident throughout, since Cockrum often deviated from it a little. The dedicatory text is visible in blue as well, as part of the layout.

I'm not familiar with this particular iteration of Kitty's costume. She seems to have borrowed Judge Anderson's shoulder pillows. Cockrum included her Star of David necklace, which is often omitted in recent years.

Sweet! Cockrum's humor and love of the character was still there even after leaving Marvel for a long time as the big shoulderpad era took hold. The dedication gives this piece even more charm.
