Kitty was introduced to the X-Men as a point-of-view character for young readers to empathize with. It must have worked, since she was my favorite character. Her presence also gave a new parental dynamic to the other characters, especially Storm and Wolverine. The famed "Days of Future Past" story predicted that as an adult she would be known as "Kate," but only recently did Jonathan Hickman's Krakoa storyline bring that to pass. Apparently the post-Krakoa writers are pivoting back to the previous status quo, which I think is a mistake. Who will speak up for Kate?
