DescriptionDeadpool Annual #1 CoverArt by Tradd Moore Fashionably late to the Deadpool art party! Deadpool and Madcap do their best "Spidey's pointing fingers at each other" impression, as an arsenal of weapons approach them in Kirby-esque tech machine style on this humorous cover (that includes a nod to Looney Tunes as well) to Deadpool Annual #1 (2013) by Tradd Moore. I have a soft spot for Madcap and back in 2014, when I was first getting back into reading/collecting comics again after a bit of an absence since getting "a real job", I grabbed this issue from the shelf at a local shop and gave it a read (among others). Not only was it a fun team-up between 2 of Marvel's silliest/funniest characters, but it retroactively explained some easter egg details about Deadpool's mainline series. It is revealed the White Caption Boxes which appeared throughout Daniel Way's Deadpool (Vol. 4) series were actually Madcap inside Deadpool's mind. This issue explains how they merged and how they separated. The first part of the issue takes place before Deadpool (Vol. 4 2008-2012) #1 and the second part takes place before Deadpool (Vol. 5 2013-2015) #1. I had no clue who the cover artist was at the time, never heard of him or gave it a second thought. Costly mistake I guess, lol. But happy that eventually I ended up with this cover art that gives me "modern nostalgia" for comics, rather than childhood nostalgia. This was a time that I started going to conventions/comic shows, reading new releases again (and re-reading old favorites too), collecting bigger key issues/slabs for the first time, etc. Sadly it took another 3-4 years after that before I started collecting original art, but I got there eventually. Boom! Tradd is one of the premier Deadpool artists, even though I don't think he did any interior work on the character. I'd love to track it down if he did.

Thanks Rick!! lots of little details in there to notice and discover everytime I look at it for sure. Even 11 years ago earlier in his career Tradd put a ton of work in clearly!

thanks man!! and absolutely agree. I have 3 main periods of nostalgia and depending on who you ask, they are all considered "modern" to some degree. The first being the late 80s and all of the 90s, childhood. The second being early 2000s (high school). The third is getting back into comics as an adult (2010s). I've been focusing more on those time periods generally speaking even though the stuff older than that I do have a lot of love/appreciation for I can't put those into a nostalgic bucket for me since I was either too young to appreciate or not even alive lol

I love Madcap! A fun, silly character. I'm not the biggest fan of Moore's style from SSB onward, but I'm absolutely a fan of the style he was employing before that and this is a great example. Great composition and I especially love the modernized take on the Kirby Tech!

Thanks Ruben!! Yeah Madcap is awesome haha, sad origin story but absolutely ridiculously silly personality ever since. Prob one of my favorite overall B-tier (or lets face it C-tier or lower) Marvel characters!
I hear ya re: Moore's SSB and beyond style changing, and although I personally love that newer style from him as well I can see it not working for various tastes. Thats another part of what makes the hobby so great, to each their own as far as artists and styles. I would say personally I prefer his earlier stuff but I also really like what he's been doing the last 5 or so years too.

Hey, you got there, right?! All that matters, man!
Fun piece for sure, and I hear you about Madcap - an endearing offbeat character, wacky and wild. I guess you can say that about Wade, too :) So, yes, a prime pairing here, and rendered by Tradd?! Fergetaboutit! Nice depth and got those trademark Tradd inks. Congrats, man!

haha yeah I got there eventually, but if i had a time machine...lmao ;-p
and thanks bro!! def 2 of my favorite characters that lean on humor more than others, so it was a team up I really enjoyed when I read it - so to own the cover many years later is awesome for me. Tradd def brings it with the details and inks on this cover

The life in annual is a Tradd and a prize
A stair Wade to darkness in the ink of the line
As Looney Tunes nears to learn he'll never be running fad
The man in the art will bring another Madcap
Your cover told Pool that you're not supposed to talk to strangers
Look in the mirror, tell me, do you think you life's in cover, yeah?
No Moore tears (Tears, tears)
No Moore tears (Tears, tears)
