DescriptionTaking advantage of the Labor Day Weekend in the U.S. to catch up on posting art.I know nothing about this 2015 series written by Caitlin Kiernan but it's clear that Daniel Warren Johnson had "it" from a very early point in his artistic career, particularly when it comes to conveying mood. I also see a Harren influence on DWJ's early art, most prominently in the depiction of the monster in the lower half of the page. At $100, pages like this are proof that standout original comic art can still be found at prices that don't bust the budget. Social/Sharing |

You're right, a very nice looking page, Mark. A hundred bucks is dirt cheap for this level of artistry, even if the artist weren't a known commodity.

Great piece of art at a great price, and an early sign of the talented artist DWJ is and the impact he'd have on modern comics. Great stuff!

Bargain of the year! DWJ shows the great storytelling in this work that is years ahead of the maturity level of someone on his third project. At a mere 5 issues, this is reaching the mid point of the story and we clearly see faces of good and evil.

Ha, you must type quicker than lightning ! Very nice.
More and more convinced that, when it comes to mainstream US "boys" comics, he is the absolute of his genetation.

Awesome pick up and insane luck for the craziest drop of the year! Like you said early DWJ still has the hallmarks that made him what he is today. Congrats Mark!

Absolutely fantastic, Mark. Along with the Harren influence, that wide open third panel also reminds me of Jeff Smith's forest scenes in Bone; nothing like a good glade or clearing to set up some action in (and the beast's posture in this panel also screams Bone to me, too). Fantastic atmosphere and storytelling here throughout. Yup, DWJ definitely had "it" in spades, even from the start. Sincere congrats on picking up one of these bargain-priced treasures, Mark - I really love this page.

Wowza! What cool early Daniel Warren Johnson page! Even this early in his career you can see glimpses of brilliance! The composition of this page is gorgeous. DWJ starts with two small closeups, then cuts to a wide shot of the clearing in the forest. Great storytelling technique. Then he cus to a close-up of the monster in shadow and the girls looking upwards. Great use of shadows and spot blacks. I love the balance and symmetry of the page. And you got this amazing page for $100???? Bargain of the year, I say. Serious congrats on a budget pick-up!
