Description

This one was an eBay win from earlier this year. This annual was a tie-in to DC's 1993 "Bloodlines" event, which featured shapeshifting parasites from another dimension and introduced a series of new characters who gained powers through their interactions with the parasites. Here we see most of L.E.G.I.O.N.'s core team investigating the dimensional rift which the parasites first emerged from, finding their home dimension to be very empty and very small, with what they mistook for large, far-distant stars actually turning out to be planets.

I love how moody this page is, with the blackness of the empty space in the fourth panel seeming to spill into the rest of the page, casting everyone in shadows and emphasizing just how dark and empty the dimension truly is. Similarly to L.E.G.I.O.N.'s second annual, this one also credits multiple inkers (Scott Hanna, Andrew Pepoy, Mark McKenna, and Tom McQueeney), but I own a few other pages Hanna's inked, and I think I recognize his style here. I enjoy all of the fine hatching and cross-hatching he did for the shading, the way he rendered the halo of light around the planet, and the enormous amount of detail and fine lines he used to render the characters' hair. Stealth's hair in the bottom panel is especially well done.
