DescriptionAh, this page. This is probably one of my favourite pages from the whole run of Legionnaires! I can distinctly recall reading it for the first time, and I think I can maybe pinpoint that as the moment that really cemented two things for me: my love of Jeff Moy's art, and my love for this version of the Legion. Every aspect is just peak Legion goodness - the facial expressions, the multitude of characters, the abundance of personality (and personality conflicts!), and the humour. And the page hasn't stopped impressing me since! I've bought a lot of art over the last three and a half years, and have to admit that at this point, I spend enough time looking at the scans of art I purchase that by the time the art is in my hands, the novelty can sometimes have worn off a little bit. Unboxing this page, laying eyes on it for the first time, was the first time in a long time that I was properly stunned by how gorgeous the art looks in person. Maybe it's Carani's fantastic inks, or the pure nostalgia, or how different it is to see the art on the 11x17 scale instead of the smaller scale of the scan, but it just took my breath away. This period of Legionnaires - the first year or so - is my favourite, and it's great to have a page that features every single one the original ten Legionnaires (substituting Spark for Live Wire, of course). Jeff gives each one of them their own visible personality, even in the third panel where all they're doing is sitting down! And the interaction in the bottom panels is just one of my favourites from the whole run. Brainy's face - so angry and indignant he's almost manifesting his own stormclouds around his head - is just priceless. Have you ever seen a more withering glare? It's really the best part of the page, and I don't know if any artist other than Jeff could have pulled it off as perfectly as he did. I remember laughing so hard the first time I read it, and it's been a lot of fun to show the page around and watch how Brainy's expression makes everyone else laugh, too! Social/Sharing |

I like it too with all those personalities in one room. Plus you get Brainy haunches. Whoever is the Legion's hairdresser must be busy all the time getting in all that volume.

You know, when he found out I liked this page, Jeff Moy made the EXACT same observation about it featuring Brainy haunches. No idea WHAT you people are insinuating.
(I will admit, it does enhance the page.)
And you're right about Jeff really pouring the volume into everyone's hair! It's one of my favourite parts of his artstyle, and he's mentioned that he took inspiration from the voluminous hair Adam Hughes would give his characters.
