Description

This illustration appears in the April, 1956 issue of New Worlds Science Fiction magazine for the story "Artifact" by Chad Oliver.

"Quinn was a self-taught artist who lived most of his life in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He submitted his work on spec to New Worlds editor John Carnell who was impressed, launching Quinn’s prolific career." (https://file770.com/gerard-quinn-1927-2015/)

The illustration communicates a lot of life and culture with looks of heavy inking that indicate a harsh arctic environment.
