Description

I was a huge fan of Gatchaman as a kid (called Battle of the Planets back then). I always thought it was a really fan show, they had a good balance of serious characters and funny characters, they had some cool vehicles, and I loved their uniforms... So when I saw that Bob Layton was working on this exclusive wrap-around cover for Dice & Comics Cafe in Seoul, I knew I wanted it. I love the layout with all the members of the team flying through the cover, while also showing all their vehicles as well... And of course, one of the main villains Berg Katse looking menacing on the front part of the cover. I think Bob really knocked this one out of the ballpark and I am happy to add what I think is a great portrayal of Gatchaman to my collection!! I also got the color guide for this piece from Bob!

I never watched Battle of the Planets, though I can't remember if it even aired here where I live. I'm visually familiar with the characters though, so it must've aired here. Gotta say though, I prefer Layton's more realistic style than the animated style!

He designed it to look like merchandising art out of the 70's! A lot cooler than earlier comics reboots as it has the spirit of the animation series. It is Layton's modern skill applied to retro themes.
