DescriptionThe opening sequence of Transformers issue 10 is a beautifully drawn mostly textless sequence that shows how Beachcomber eventually arrives on Earth. This sequence remains amongst some of my favorite moments from the series thus far and they are some of the most beautifully drawn. Jorge Corona seriously impressed me with his visual storytelling, packed with so many emotions. Here we see Beachcomber, stranded on the moon, seeing his way to reach Earth. To this point he has spent millions of years staring at and falling in love with the beauty of Earth. So when he hops onto the lunar lander for its return trip to Earth, we see his pure joy. Thrilled to own this one as this nature loving pacifist has quickly become my favorite character of the series! Social/Sharing |

Beachcomber is such a fun character! And this is a great page with him. That last panel is particularly stunning.

He's just a happy Earth loving hippie going for a ride!

It's also a good character page as he does not reveal himself to the humans. Beachcomber lets them have their victory in accomplishing a moon landing and didn't want to harsh on their win. You totally get a Spicoli vibe from him!

Very true! You can hear him saying "Awesome, TOTALLY AWESOME" as he rides that command module back to Earth!

Now THIS is some excellent Transformers art! What a beautiful page to choose, Carl! Such a great setting. The third panel in particular is stunning, and the smile and sheer joy on Beachcomber's face just can't help make ME smile. The way Corona drew the reflection in the last panel is outstanding as well!

Even before I was able to purchase it, I knew it was likely to have some blue showing given the repeating panel but I still didn't care. The content on this page was just too perfect to pass up! I couldn't get the previous page since Daniel Warren Johnson has it but still thrilled to get a page from this really awesome sequence! Happy Beachcomber is just perfect!

Can you give us more details about the second panel?

Sure thing, it's essentially the third panel. The second panel shows a ridge on the moon and fhen the next panel shows Beachcomber popping up over the ridge. To show that "popping up" more effectively Jorge reused the same angle and positioning for the ridge. So since the ridge art was reused, in that third panel all he had to draw was Beachcomber and some dust being kicked up. Jorge does his layouts digitally and then inks traditionally so you see the blue showing through in that 3rd panel.

Such a sunny boy! His exuberance and joy are just so contagious, you can't help but feel excited and happy for him here.

I haven't read the run so I can't say I understand the context of the character fully, but as a huge space nerd and fan of the Apollo era (from a historical standpoint, I wasnt alive back then obviously) I love this page as it recalls so many old mission films/photos/documentaries and such of the time. Really cool space page with a literal Apollo 11 tie-in, love it man!

Thanks Kavi! f you get the chance to at least check out the first few pages of Transformers #10 I feel like you will really love it as a self proclaimed space nerd. The sequence beautifully shows Beachcomber falling in love with the beauty of Earth (while stranded on the Moon). I too love that era of space travel & find it all fascinating so to see it woven into Beachcomber's story was incredibly cool!
