Description

Richard Powers cover painting for "Riders to the Stars" by Curt Siodmak which is the novelization by Siodmak from his screenplay for the film of the same title. Published by Ballantine Books in 1953. This cover was produced within a year or so of Powers arrival at Ballantine where his surrealist style would change the face of science fiction illustration forever. His impact on science fiction illustration cannot be overstated! Delighted to have this early example of his work for Ballantine in the collection!

The rocket age meets the jet age with a combination of design by adding cockpit for a pilot! Just years after breaking the sound barrier, space travel was more of a possibility than ever during this time as imaginations were ignited about endless possibilities.

Cool early piece by Powers! The movie version was an early childhood memory -- catching asteroids with rockets!
