DescriptionIn a voiceover, Nathan reflects on the bitter life of Xenia and the other clones: “I use the flyer's communicator to call for help. It takes them a while to arrive. The electromagnetic storm we encountered while transporting Rogher was an atmospheric shield designed for this place, a way to make it invisible, or at least try to. When Xenia and I leave, I delude myself that I will leave behind the horrors seen in the Habitat... a structure built by yet another unscrupulous multinational IT company that Sigmund manages to locate. “Their aim was to create a gigantic organic computer, formed by connecting the brains of unsuspecting clones created and engineered precisely for this purpose, because the human brain has a greater potential than any machine. All you have to do is provide it with the right motivations: Someone to love, friends, tasks to do, hobbies, and above all else: hope, a dream to be touched without reaching, one that we are content to call ‘the future.’” Xenia is understandably traumatized by the revelation that she was only a clone with implanted memories. Nathan Never often borrows from Blade Runner, and this detail is quite similar to the replicants whose quest for life and meaning propelled that film. Likewise Nathan’s ruminations here are similar to those of Rick Deckard at the end of the film. Social/Sharing |

Even though the approach is different, it's eerily similar to the Artificial Intelligence arms race going on right now IRL between global corporations and between major nation states. I like the paralells you made to Blade Runner as well, even though it's Star Wars Day - it still has Harrison!

I wonder if Xenia will return someday? Maybe she has a chip on her shoulder with a quest to prove that she's much more than a clone. Maybe she can be implanted with the entire knowledge of the world.
