Description

Day 13. Thirty-one days of Star Wars (2025 edition).

Imperial forces are hot on the heels of our heroes in this scene from "Death in the City of Bone!" Fenn Shysa (still partially disguised in Stormtrooper armor) and Princess Leia are preparing to make a hasty exit in a speeder with Threepio and a captured Dengar in the back seat. Imprisoned Mandalorian workers, just freed by our heroes, offer to aid in cutting off their pursuit.

Historical footnote: The name Mandalorian was created during the development of The Empire Strikes Back. Conceptual artist Ralph McQuarrie and production designer Joe Johnston created an idea for super commandos from the planet Mandalore. Eventually, this morphed into just Boba Fett, and he was turned into a bounty hunter. The name Mandalorian was then used to describe Fett’s armor in ‘80s promotional material, books and other tie-in media, but never spoken on screen in the original trilogy.

While the idea of Mandalorians was later expanded upon in other Star Wars media like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, the original Marvel comics run are where the foundation for the Mandalorian culture and the term "Mandalorian" was established for us older fans and collectors. Specifically, issue #68, "The Search Begins," is where they were first introduced, and issue #69 continued to develop the concept. The comic described those who wore the Boba Fett-style armor as not only super-commandos but protectors of the planet Mandalore, and survivors of the Clone Wars.

This is the May!

One of these Days Dengar will drop out and believe C3
One of Gene Days Mandos will shock and play with rebel fleet
One of these Days Empire will stop and I won't need a Fenn
One of Gene Days their bombs will drop and silence everything

But it's alright
Yeah it's alright
I said it's alright

Easy force you today
Your art has Palmer Gene workin'
Your line has Leia seen shootin'
Not yet not yet

Two sequential Day's on Day 13 of 31 sequential Days of art seems fitting! Any page where Leia is firing a blaster is a good one in my book.

Nice content in this one. I love Palmer as many fans do, but this is one of those times where I wish someone else was inking, just so we could have a Gene Day Star Wars issue (that looks like Gene Day!).

Agreed. Especially since Day inked a number of Infantino pencilled issues earlier in the series, which look more like Infantino. Pure Day would have been a treat.

Leia looks great here - especially in the bottom panel.
