DescriptionBack when comic book superheroes felt like real people because they had ordinary clothes, apartments, girlfriends, and garages that doubled as workshops. Steve Rogers repairs the arm straps of his shield after the third-tier villain, Machete, sliced them off with his throwing saws in an attempt to steal it (see this gallery for the page where the action takes place). I remember reading this issue as a kid and thinking that Cap's shield is just as vulnerable as Cap himself who only wears a "cloth" costume. I also remember thinking Cap is touching up the shield's paint with the same stuff Dad has stored outside.A special Thank-you to Joseph Melchior who thought of me when he came across this page from one of my early childhood comics. In memory of Paul Neary (Dec. 18, 1949 - Feb. 10, 2024). Paul was around 35-36 years old when he drew this page. Social/Sharing |

Danny Trejo is everywhere! Nice to see these scenes where Steve has a regular girlfriend that's outside of his work as Cap. Neary and Janke work very well together to bring some neat inking patterns and effects. Jack barges in like he's in a sitcom.

I'm always so delighted when I run into pages like this where Superheroes are just living their lives, dating nonsuperhero people and behaving like regular folks. Beautiful page from Paul Neary and Dennis Jenke that makes Steve Rogers seem almost ordinary. Nicely composed page with terrific inks. Great pick-up, congrats!
