Small Hulk Squish! Congrats on snagging a rare Trimpe Hulk cover!
At ten bucks a pop, it's hard not to get caught up in the whirlwind of a good deal.
Dudes, wtf..."Didn't know there was a 'female Punisher?'"
This is Lynn Michaels. Former cop, who teamed up with The Punisher in the past when she was still an active cop.
She was one of the several personaliites such as Payback who took up the Punisher mantle after Castle "died" in the Suicide Run storyline. These Punishers are then targeted by VIGIL, an anit-vigilante task force similar to AVTF in Dardevil: Born Again.
Otherwise, this was done at a time when heroes were getting killed, broken, or demoted and successors were stepping in.
Great cover. Remember it like it was yesteryear.
Oh, hey. I just posted a page from #48. Would this be considered "historic death of Brattle Gun"? :)
Cool to see more pages from this issue posted.
Yoooo! I was just thinking about this piece yesterday and whether you had posted it yet or not, but forgot to check. This is a darling. You just don't see pages with Az-Bats shooting bat-projectiles out there. Glad this one has a good home!
Congrats on acquiring a Grail page! I also acquired a Neary Captain America Grail. Also an end page. Neary really knew how to close out an issue.
Too cool. I'll have to pull my copy out and read it!
I can't believe these pieces were available with no takers. I'd given up searching for original Sam Kieth Maxx art given it's rarity. Now I wish I had come across these.
I can't believe the timing of this purchase! Congrats! Yeah, I have similar criteria--now imagine all that we miss for having such restrictions! But damn, this coloring is beautiful.
Can't forget WHOOP, the sound of taking a dump on the gunner. Could also be WHOOMP, predating Tag Team by two years.
It begs these questions: Who benefitted from letting the dogs out? How many parties were complicit in letting the dogs out? Was congress informed the dogs were going to be let out beforehand? And will it happen again? These are crazy times, my friend.
"Guys, we are supposed to disassemble. This is the complete opposite."
Really nice splash from a classic storyline!
The illustration might look simple, but the imagery is iconic and just hits differently.
Always wanted a Spider-Woman from Leialoha but was too shy to ask. Nice get.
What a wonderful page to own, Joseph, but best of all is your rememberance of Sam. Thank you for sharing.
It wasn't comics. Sam Kieth was painting masterworks of fine art as seen in this here example.
That's a close degree of separation. I remember seeing this on eBay once, maybe twice. When my friend Anthony offered it up and was willing to accept a cash/trade deal, I knew it found a home. (I think the trade involved a Matt Groening Bart Simpson sketch cover in a CGC Gold Label slab.)
Wow! Travis Charest whipped it good!
Man, Dave Cockrum was still killing it in the 90s.

You got some art with Wonder Man and Letter Man on the same page. Nice!
This cover makes me feel like the first time I ever laid eyes on Jim Cheung artwork.
Nice splash page! I didn't know about this one. Nice inking too.
Something from this storyline is on my wantlist. Brings back memories. Congrats on getting a friggin cover. I think they're all classics!
I'm a big Mike Allred fan and I've been following him since Madman. I think the fading is a happy accident. If you laid out representative examples of his OA in chronological order you can see this artitistic progression with his use of different sizes in boards and inking styles. Then you have this period with faded marker and it's all Alex Toth's fault! (or whomever.) Then shortly from here Mike moves on to X-Force and that's different size board and empty word balloons because now we're looking at early digital lettering. So to me, the Hullabaloo period becomes a talk piece.
Dude, wow! Who was James writing to? Damn, I wish he'd write a memoir.
Oh, gosh, I hope my memory serves me right here, that "two tone" is not intentional, it's actually the ink fading. Alex Toth had raved to Mike about some particular markers and Mike took Alex's word for it, only to have the ink fade over time. "Arrgh!" said Mike. I always found that anecdote amusing--like why wouldn't you listen to your hero and mentor, he would know best, right? I think Mike told this story on one of the early CAL interviews. Maybe the video is on the CAF YouTube channel. Nonetheless, nice page, Derek.
That death stare!
Ahh that moment in time when Howard had a resurgence of interest when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was approaching its height thanks to GotG. Yes, I read this book and I think this cover is a classic of the 2010s. I wish Marvel had done more with HTD in the comics and movies. Nice grab.
You should build that museum! This is already a galactic get but I all the more appreciate it with your write up!
Ha! It's Hulk 181 Wolverine! Got the whiskers and the blue "tiger stripe." Now realizing Marvel had a thing for yellow masks in the 70s.
Now that's a match-up! How unrealistic would this have been back in '75?
I alway love when artists use white paint for snow effect. Seems simple but I don't have the hand-eye coordination for it.
1990s' Dark Age + Moody Bagley = this page
Another nice git!
Yass bro when did you get this??
Please tell me her Hawaiin driver's license just reads MacEvil. This is a good pickup. A 1st app is a 1st app.
