DescriptionYear: 1988Size: 11” x 17” Big John was responsible for Wolvie’s first ongoing series and he wanted to put Wolvie into something other than his typical costume. Thanks to that we got to see Patch and a more practical outfit for our favorite berserker. All of the covers in Big John’s run were inked by Al Williamson with the exception of this one which went to Klaus Janson. Just fantastic energy brought into play with the Silver Samurai and Wolvie going at it. The blood splatters really sold it. This is one of the times where the colors in the cover added a lot to the final product as it REALLY popped with that red background and the simple colors between Silver Samurai and Wolvie. Big John? More like Big Josh!
Congrats buddy, this is just iconic, and from such a great era of Wolverine storytelling. But I think the barcode space should have had a picture of Ryan.

The early covers on this Wolverine run were memorable and this one is a grail for sure.

It's great that Janson got to work with both Buscema brothers. Tough call for me as to who I liked him inking more. Sal's work with Klaus on some of those early Defenders issues are among my all time favorite art issues. But this early Wolverine cover is yet another great example by two of Marvel's all time greats.

Fans got what they want in a solo Wolverine series! There was no better than John Buscema in bringing the barbarian warrior like brutality and Klaus Janson making things grim and gritty! Issue two kept the momentum going and looked even more dynamic with blodd splatter everywhere.

Ferocious cover that really represents the intensity and visceral qualities that Buscema (with Claremont) wanted to bring to this version of Wolverine. Awesome, awesome piece. Congrats!
