Description

A Joe Simon page from Black Cat Comics 7, published in 1947. This page is from the 10-page story "Topsy Turvy Tavern" featuring Duke of Broadway. Based on research that I've done on the page, Duke of Broadway was co-created by Simon and Jack Kirby, making his first appearance in 1946's Boy Explorers Comics 1.

Being that it's a page from the Golden Age, it's naturally bigger than pages in later comics. What was surprising to me was how thick and sturdy the art board is. In the placeholder for the title, issue, and page at the top, it's noted as a magazine board. On the back of the page is writing that I can't make out. (See attached file.)

I can't make out what's written on the back, either, but an original Joe Simon page is always a joy to behold. Congratulations!

Very much shows how Simon can make an exposition page more exciting with camera movement and panel shapes. The close ups are so unique to that time period.

Great page. I believe the back says Kirby and the price (800?). In years past many attributed to Jack Kirby pages like this one that were done by Joe.
