Incredible Hulk 222 was the fourth Hulk book I got off the rack back when it came out. It was probably part of a 3-pack. Very creepy story that had a horror vibe to it. Reading it as a kid makes it a hard one to forget.
Looks like that Doom head in the bottom panel was reused six years later on the cover of Super-Villain Team-Up 1.
I remember buying that issue off the rack in 1981. Later that month, She-Hulk would be featured alongside Spider-Man in Marvel Team-Up, which I also bought. That was a fun month for comics.
The were together in a lot in an Heritage auction.
I'm pretty sure it's Lumi, the Snow Queen, one of Geppetto's lieutenants.
Awesome pickup! I fondly remember reading and enjoying that issue when it came out. It's what got me to start picking up Uncanny X-Men more regularly.
"There was a time when I would buy any comic with the Absorbing Man in it...including this one"
Me too, and, yes, I bought that Dazzler issue when it came out.
I have fond memories of this DPS, as X-Men 105 was the second issue of X-Men that I ever read back 1977. (The first was 104.) It was one of the comics in a Marvel Multi-Mags 3-pack. Like with you, this was my introduction to Firelord. I love the layout of the pages and the awesome Cockrum art.
You definitely made the right decision. I recently discovered Frany's work and was blown away by the beauty of her paintings. That was enough for me to buy one of the covers posted for sale.
Good to read that Dexer enjoyed working on the sketch. I was afraid that I requested characters that the artists have drawn hundreds of times and might be bored of drawing.
Will do. Thanks for the information about the sales history. I love the Starman covers. There are two Tony Harris ones coming up for auction in the Comic Link auction that begins May 16.
Loved the Torpedo in Rom. He was such an unexpected recurring character. I hated that they killed him later in the series.
Thanks for identifying the episode this cel is from, Pedro.
Fantastic page from a fun storyline in Rom. I didn't think they could top the arc that ended with issue 25 and teased the arrival of Galactus. But when issue 26 showed up in the mailbox the following month, it was clear that they certainly would.
Awesome page! It's at the end of the first issue of the two-issue story with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the return of Hybrid, one of the more creepier villains in the Rom series. And yes, this is tied with X-Men 158 as Rogue's second appearance. Both Rom 31 and X-Men 158 came out of the same week. I got the Rom issue in' 82 through my subscription to the title and bought the X-Men issue at the local convenient store near my house.
I picked it up in mid-August during one of Heritage's large animation auctions.
Awesome page! I love Sal Buscema's work on Rom and Incredible Hulk.
I loved seeing those Hostess ads in Marvel Comics in the late '70s. I hope to own one someday.
