DescriptionJeremy Bastian's Cursed Pirate Girl, a personal favorite, tells the story of a young girl who believes her father to be the King of Pirates and who decides to go find him.Sugar and Spike features two toddlers able to speak to themselves, other babies, and baby animals by the late Sheldon Mayer ran for 98 issues originally. DC eventually published issue 99, but there has never been a 100th issue. I use this as a starting point for commissions from favorite artists. At Baltimore Comic Con in 2024, Jeremy agreed to create a drawing of S&S with CPG. I had no suggestions other than the usual about the kid's inability to communicate to adults. He produced this wonderful mixture. I assume that Bernie the Brain managed to open a hole to the Omertà Seas of CPG's world for the kids. As you can see, they've adapted very well. Don't ask what they are doing; it's the Omertà Sea after all. :) Social/Sharing |

This is like if you traveled back in time hundreds of years ago in the time of pirates and was a patron of the arts to have soething like this illustrated. This rivals some of the best pieces of your collection to take the top spot.

Alex, this is easily one of the best Sugar & Spike 100 covers you've commissioned! The attention to detail with all the stippling is nothing short of stunning. Also love Jeremy's style that evokes the early days of children's books like Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh and Dr. Seuss. Congrast and keep spending that inheritance!

Wow...I am floored, Alex. Jeremy did an amazing job on this piece - Sugar and Spike never looked better. Congrats!

Beautiful piece. An odd pairing in any other gallery, except this one! Congrats.

Take this the right now, but, oh, you bastard. I lamented not getting a S&S with Jeremy when I went to a show he was at and now it would be probably pointless, or seem like I'm a copycat. This is perty though.

People just don't draw like this anymore.
Well....most people.
Amazing!

It's interesting when artists deviate from the Sheldon Mayer template. Bastian certainly transforms the kids into the Cursed Pirate Girl world, but it works, so it's fine.
