Description"Battle of Midway" by Paul S. Newman. October-December 1963.Ensign Reed is surprised his torpedo does hit its target, a Japanese tanker. His report of hitting the ship doesn't make much of a dent with his superior, who worries that they still don't know where the Japanese carrier strike force and won't be able to prevent the Japanese bombing the island. While piloting his PBY Catalina in search of the enemy carriers, he sees unidentified planes heading towards Midway and alerts the base. Social/Sharing |

Direct hit! That about as much as you can expect from the big flying fortress, but it even serves to provide reconnaissance here.

A lot of aviation going on, although no B-17s here. They're PBY Catalinas, having launched the torpedoes on the previous page and searching in the last panel here.
